Volvo 2001 V70 Xc Stuck in Third Gear

  1. Lightbulb 2001 Volvo V70 Xc - Transmission trouble tertiary gear does not work

    Hello friend
I'grand new Volvo owner and running issues with transmission.
My Volvo is 5 speed automation manual with 96k single owner. When I shift the gear to D the car moves just when it comes to third gear the car does not accelerate. However if I modify the gear from D to manual shifting later shifting 2nd gear I can skip 3rd gear and move to 4th and 5th without any upshot. I'm not certain what seems to be the problem. Any Assist Volvo subject field matter experts.

Has the large plug on the meridian ot the manual been removed? I take read this plug secures the 3rd gear band. If the plug is removed, the band end is lost with the resulting loss of third gear. It is reported the band end can be re-captured. Bank check other Volvo boards like Swedespeed for the trouble and possible solutions.

Is this Large Plug about the transmission drain plug or on the engine

  4. Default

Top of transmission, looks like a large 5 sided bolt.

Advise reading this thread....it sounds similar the same trouble:

This plug has been mistaken for a fast make full plug and when used as such disables the third gear band, it is possible to catch the band and reinstall, without removing the manual, but this needs a modified plug with a pigsty drilled and tapped for second smaller plug to facilitate the procedure, removing the servo cover helps the process, which could also be the problem as it might have a lacking early on cover, which is very easy to replace and should be done before doing annihilation else.

So if you think the previous possessor may have accidentally removed the 27mm (?) commodities which holds the 3rd gear ring on your trans, how do you verify that'south the case? Call up the PO and see what he knows?

    Hi
I accept been experiencing a problem with third gear also. My 2002 (113,000mi) if I am driving at a speed just effectually where information technology would shift into 3rd it may not exist in gear as I accelerate and so at that place is a clunk as it goes into gear I have learned tiger the feel for when it is not arrive gear and give it a footling gas to encourage it to slide into gear
Wonder if this is simlar to your problem.

A cut loose and banging into tertiary is commonly the linear solenoids are sludged up and the pintle's hang or stick creating a lapse in the clutch packs coming upwards to force per unit area, also the valve body that could take some wear, but lets not overlook the early on servo comprehend coming autonomously and causing shift problems in tertiary gear

No tertiary gear is likely due to the ring anchor beingness asunder.

If the P.O. is honest, hell say that he had a transmission fluid modify done...in which either he, or his hack mechanic, idea the band anchor bolt was a fill port. Mysteriously afterwards, third gear stopped working.

If you can capture the end of the band, every bit described in the linked thread, you lotll be back in business.

    If not, itsouthward rebuild time.

    Good luck.
